Regular Council Meeting

July 1, 2019

The July council meeting was called to order by President of Council, Paul Price, with the following council members present: Margie Clement, Gloria Leiter, Tom Emery, and Doug Price. Phil Eutsler was also in attendance.


The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Margie Clement moved to pay all bills. Gloria Leiter seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Old Business

Councilman Jordan Young will be sent a letter of termination due to his absence from six of the seven council meetings this year. Furthermore, a letter of resignation from Sarah Kimmet was emailed to and read by Jen Pugh (please see attached). Anyone interested in filling the vacant council seat or the mayor’s position beginning January 1, 2020 should pick up a petition at the Van Wert County Board of Elections, obtain a minimum of ten voter-registered signatures, and return the petition to the Board of Elections no later than August 7, 2019. The fee is $30.


New Business

Doug Price moved to pay Sarah Kimmet for the four months of meetings she attended plus half of the annual salary of $1000. Margie Clement seconded the motion. Motion passed.


Gloria Leiter moved to appoint Council President, Paul Price, as acting mayor. Tom Emery seconded the motion. Motion passed. In addition, Margie Clement moved to pay Paul Price the remaining annual stipend for the mayor’s position in December. Gloria Leiter seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Pugh stated that two fire levies will expire at the end of the year. Together the levies generate $1,020.00 for fire protection. Emery moved to accept the resolution to proceed with placing a 1.4 and 0.60 mil levy for the purpose of fire protection on the 2019 November ballot. Councilman Price seconded the motion. A roll-call vote was taken with the following results: unanimously in favor. Motion passed.


Doug Price moved to remove the flag pole and community board from the town lot as both are in bad shape and both have replacements elsewhere in the village. Gloria Leiter seconded the motion. Motion passed.


Village residents are reminded to respect the “quiet hours” of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on weekends). Fireworks and other excessive noises should not be initiated during these times.



At 7:02 p.m. Doug Price moved for adjournment. Meeting adjourned.


The next meeting will be Monday, August 5, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Please note the new time for the remainder of the year.
