Regular Council Meeting

October 1, 2018


The October council meeting was called to order by Mayor Sarah Kimmet with the following council members present: Doug Price, Paul Price, Margie Clement, Gloria Leiter, Jordan Young, and Tom Emery. Also in attendance were: Craig Knapke, Sara Lape, and Bonnie Thatcher.


The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Doug Price moved to pay all bills. Tom Emery seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Two candidates for Van Wert County positions, Sara Lape and Bonnie Thatcher, spoke to the council about the jobs they are seeking, their qualifications, and past experiences.


Old Business

Craig Knapke shared the street project plans with council. Everything that has been started at this point will be finished up and then a decision will be made about whether the Plum Street project will begin or commence in the spring. Knapke reported to council that due to drainage issues, between $10,000 and $12,000 of the original $40,000 contingency amount was used.

Paul Price moved to approve the pay request of $105,165.66 to PAB Contracting for services rendered thus far and authorize the necessary signatures. Margie Clement seconded the motion. A roll-call vote was taken with a unanimous ‘yes’ vote indicated. Motion passed.


A discussion about which flags to display on the newly raised flag poles, the Welsh or State, was held. It was decided to purchase both and alternate monthly.

New Business

The Venedocia Trick-or-Treat night will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. with a costume judging event at the Venedocia Lions Club at 8:00 p.m.



At 8:15 p.m. Gloria Leiter moved for adjournment. Meeting adjourned.


The next meeting will be November 5, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.
