Regular Council Meeting

August 1, 2016 6:00 p.m.


The August council meeting was called to order by Mayor Sarah Kimmet with the following council members present: Marjorie Clement, Christina Young, Gloria Leiter, Paul Price, Tom Emery and Doug Price.


The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Gloria Leiter moved to pay all bills. Marjorie Clement seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Old Business

Prior to the August meeting, phone calls were made to the mayor and council members about the enormity of the skunk problem in the village. Gloria Leiter moved to allot two hundred additional dollars for the purpose of trapping unwanted animals in the village. Christina Young seconded the motion. Motion carried. Mr. Feasby will return on Wednesday of this week to place traps in a few designated areas.


Council person Young updated the council on correspondence with Craig Knapke. The next step is to apply for the OPWC grant which is due this fall. If that grants proves to be successful, next spring the CDGB grant will be applied for. Money from the village will not be due until 2018-2019, depending on success of the applications.


A second reading of Resolution 2016-05, which states a 1.2 mil levy will be placed on the November ballot for the purpose of fire protection, was voted on. A roll-call vote was taken with the following results:

Pugh shared that Kyle Wendel, from the Van Wert County Engineers Office, was contacted about securing an address for the Lions Club. He is currently working on the easiest and most cost-effective way to achieve this.


New Business

Mayor Kimmet asked the council to consider selling the lights and fencing around the ball park to interested villages or towns. Overall, the council thought this was a good idea.


Paul Price moved to buy letters for the village display sign. Doug Price seconded the motion. Motion carried.


At 6:35 p.m. Leiter moved for adjournment. The next meeting will be September 12, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. due to the Labor Day Holiday. Meeting adjourned.
