Regular Council Meeting

May 2, 2016 6:00 p.m.


The May council meeting was called to order by Mayor Sarah Kimmet with the following council members present: Marjorie Clement, Christina Young, Gloria Leiter, Tom Emery, Paul Price, and Doug Price. Also in attendance were village residents Jerry Foust and Michelle Brown, as well as, Craig Knapke from Access Engineering Solutions.


The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Paul Price moved to pay all bills. Margie Clement seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Old Business

Council person Leiter stated the street signs were in and ready to be put up. She also reported that the 2 town radios need new batteries at a cost of $85 each. Doug Price moved to buy the batteries. Christina Young seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Craig Knapke went over the process for collecting the income surveys. Nearly all of the 48 households need to complete the survey for the village to be eligible for grant money. Council members will begin going door-to-door collecting survey information soon. Paul Price made a motion to move forward with the survey process and Christina Young seconded the motion. Motion carried.


The one and only mower bid was opened by the mayor and read by the fiscal officer. Doug Price moved to accept this bid. Christina Young seconded the motion. Motion carried. Jason Kimmet was awarded the job of mowing, trimming, and maintenance of the equipment at a rate of $5 per hour. The council outlined the land the mower is responsible for. Vacant lots may be mowed at the hourly rate plus a flat rate. This will be assessed to the land owners’ taxes.

Doug Price moved to buy a $100 pre-paid card for the purchase of gas. Gloria Leiter seconded the motion. Motion carried.


New Business

Village resident, Michelle Brown, told the council that she is concerned that loose dogs will be attacked by her protective dog. There are many dogs running loose in town. The council acknowledged that the dog ordinance needs addressed.


Pugh stated that the old village printer has been replaced and donated by the Auditor of State. It was decided to donate the printer to the Salvation Army.


There will be an Ohio Ethics Meeting on June 14, 2016 from 1-2:30 in Van Wert for any interested.


A motion was made by Doug Price to spend no more than $500 to patch areas on Plum Street, as well as Evans Street. The motion was seconded by Christina Young. Gloria Leiter will get an estimate for this job.

At 7:27 p.m. Young moved for adjournment. The next meeting will June 6, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. Meeting adjourned.
