Village of Venedocia

Venedocia Lions Club July 9, 2012

The meeting was called to order by President of Council, Robert Louth. The following council members were present: Chad Pugh, Christina Young, Lee Lare, Paul Price, and Gloria Leiter. Also in attendance were the following guests: Reverend Tom Emery, Ron Puthoff, Scott Gordon, Sara Pugh, Matt Eutsler and friend, and Linda Fox.

The bills were presented as follows:

A question was raised concerning the number of hours reported for mowing for the month. Price indicated that he had discussed this issue with Grant shortly before the meeting date.

Paul Price moved to pay all bills. Chad Pugh seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Old Business

Ron Puthoff presented Resolution #2012-2 to the council. The resolution is for the purpose of entering into a cooperative agreement with surrounding villages for a paving project. Chad Pugh moved to accept this agreement. Christina Young seconded the motion. A roll-call vote was taken. All members indicated a ‘yes’ vote. Motion passed.


Scott Gordon summarized the newly written ordinance (Ordinance 2012-3) with regards to refuse, junk, rubbish, junk motor vehicles, and the like on village residents’ property. The first reading of the ordinance was given. If found in violation of Ordinance 2012-3, the penalties will include those of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.


It was stated that the tile issue discussed at the last meeting will be resolved when the crops are off.


New Business

Young inquired about a large tree that fell in Memorial Park during the recent storm. She was told that the Memorial Park Committee will be responsible for taking care of the cleanup.


Village resident, David Hugh Evans, has talked with council members about drainage issues in his field near the village. He has asked for the village to help cover some of the cost for fixing the problem. The village is asking for an estimated cost before committing to this cause.


Pastor Emery asked about the village purchasing a battery-operated siren. A discussion was held about the idea not being feasible based on the cost of the item, which is estimated to be at $25,000.00.


Matt Eutsler asked about the Middle Point Fire Department obtaining a key to the church in case residents need to move to a safe area during inclement weather. Eutsler was told that a key would be provided.


Linda Fox asked to host a Venedocia Community Days on October 6, 2012 to raise money to benefit the Middle Point Fire Department. Pugh suggested having this event in Middle Point since there are more residents and it is not a dry community.


The fiscal officer shared that she was contacted by The Van Wert County Foundation stating that an anonymous donor gave $500.00 to the village for the use of maintaining the Venedocia Memorial Park. Paul Price moved to turn the money over to the park. Lee Lare seconded the motion. Motion carried.


The fiscal officer also shared to prepared 2013 budget. Christina Young moved to accept the budget as presented. Gloria Leiter seconded the motion. A roll-call vote was taken. All members indicted ‘yes’. Motion carried.


The next meeting will be August 6, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.
